Pastor's Corner: Spring into Summer
May 31, 2026, 12:00 PM
I’m of the school of thought that it’s still spring. Memorial Day or not, summer really begins with the solstice in late June. And summer keeps going until late September! Nonetheless, it’s worth taking a look into summer. We’ve a number of things going on these next few months.

This weekend we welcome to our parish Jeremy Barket, a seminarian for our Diocese. He’ll be with us for the next two months. He’s here to experience parish life here at St Ann’s and St Boniface Parishes. At the same time, St Joseph the Worker’s summer seminarian, Cody Yarnell, will be residing in our rectory. You’ll see these two guys around. Let’s welcome them and pray for them both as they continue their discernment and preparation for ordained ministry.

This Friday we celebrate the feast of one of our parish patrons, St Boniface—apostle to the German people. Join us at 8am that day for Mass. Also a reminder that a plenary indulgence (just like the Holy Year indulgence) can be obtained by visiting the church that day—with the usual provisions that we’ve been to confession and communion and prayed for the Pope. The church will be open from early morning until 4:30pm to allow you to do that.

Last week I mentioned this year’s Corpus Christi celebration. All of our Masses next weekend will celebrate with gratitude Christ’s great gift of himself in the Eucharist. Please note that we’ll have an afternoon of Eucharistic Adoration next Sunday at St Ann’s Church from after the 9:30am Mass, closing with Evening Prayer at 4pm.

Then, on June 12 we’ll join the Church in the United States to consecrate our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the occasion of our 250th anniversary. We’ll particularly do this at the end of the 8am Mass at St Boniface with a procession (weather permitting) to the statue of the Sacred Heart outside the church.

Vacation Bible School will again be held June 15 through June 19. Check the bulletin for details—both how to sign kids up and how to help support the program!

Let’s not forget to pray for our nation on Saturday, July 4 as we celebrate our 250 years.

Now my grandmother always said that summer’s over once we get to the 4th, but it doesn’t stop there! July 17 we begin the Novena leading to our patronal feast of St Ann (prayed in all our churches). July 25/26 is the feast, celebrated in St Ann’s Church as such—even on a Sunday! Look for details on the upcoming combined parish picnic! In August, we celebrate St Lawrence’s Feast Day on the 11th. Remember, for all those patronal days—and the Dedication Anniversaries at St Boniface on August 3—the plenary indulgence may be obtained.
